Top 7 : Second Lead Syndrome in Kdramas

Having started the kdrama Start Up with Camille and having succumbed to the second lead syndrome once again, I thought it best to bring to you the best second leads of kdramas.

1. Han Ji Pyeong in Start Up

Now. Han Ji Pyeong hit me hard, not only because of his dimples and my love of this actor in Laughter in Waikiki 2 and Best Delivery Man, but also because the whole FIRST EPISODE of Startup is focused on him being a good boy. This man is grumpy but good hearted, which we LOVE. Major second lead syndrome from the beginning.

Start Up is the story of Seo Dal Mi (Bae Suzy, literal BAE) who is trying to beat her annoying sister at a startup incubator. Doesn’t it sound like so much fun? Add Nam Joo Hyuk and Kim Sun Ho as love interests and the magic is there. I’m only on episode 6 but I can’t wait to see where this goes.

2 . Kim Shin Hyuk in She Was Pretty

I’ll have to apologize personally to Park Seo Joon for betraying him but I really wanted Kim Hye Jin to end up with Kim Shin Hyuk who is light and supportive all through the drama. What a delight! Choi Siwon gives you second lead syndrome the moment he calls Kim Hye Jin Jackson.

She Was Pretty is the story of Kim Hye Jin (Hwang Jung Eun) and Ji Sung Joon (Park Seo Joon) who were childhood best friends but didn’t see each other for years. During that time, Ji Sung Joon got hot and Kim Hye Jin got “ugly” (she isn’t, she just has bad hair days). Seeing how her friend got too hot for her, Hye Jin asks her best girl friend to pretend to be her so she won’t lose face. Unfortunately, Sung Joon turns out to be her boss. Romance ensues.

3 . Han Woo Tak in While You Were Sleeping

Cute guy playing a cute police officer, anyone? I am a big fan of Jung Hae In, he is a sweetheart and I could not bear to see him rejected during this drama. He deserved more love for sure.

While You Were Sleeping is the story of Hong Joo (Bae Suzy AGAIN) who sees future incidents in her dreams. Her new neighbour Jae Chan (Lee Jong Suk) is a rookie prosecutor and starts having those dreams too. Together they uncover clues for criminal cases.

4 . Im Guk Doo in Strong Girl Bong Soo

Even if I still prefer An Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik), I can only salute this man who was dumb enough not to see the gem that was in front of him. It also gave us the pleasure to see some cute Min Hyuk jealousy moments.

5 . Ko Choeng Myung from Hotel Del Luna

This man STOLE MY HEART. Yes, I am late to the party. Sure, I only watched Hotel Del Luna this year. Yes, I hate myself for not doing it sooner. THIS GUY. Between Hotel Del Luna and Eighteen Again, I’m about to create a fan page for this babe! He should’ve been the first not the second lead.

Hotel Del Luna is the story of Jang Man Wol (IU the ultimate babe) who is the head of a hotel for spirits, before they cross to the other side. Even though I can’t go into too much details, this drama is gooood. I never liked flashbacks before this kdrama, however I was only waiting for my man Lee Do Hyun to appear!

6 . Baek Kyung in Extraordinary You

Even though I don’t find Baek Kyung (Lee Jae Wook) that attractive, I find his character is so interesting and has depth which I enjoyed immensely. I was rooting for him even though I knew he would lose…

7 . Jo Young / Jo Eun Seop in The King

Special mention to Woo Do Hwan, one of my husbands. His case in The King is different. Although, he isn’t competing in a love triangle (unless you count the magical bromance), I fell in love with him. He cracked me up too much.

The King is indescribable. It’s Lee Minho who jumps through universes for the girl he loves while solving his problems as a king.

I think this sums it all up! What are your biggest second lead crushes?
